Looe lifeboats currently have 17 volunteer crew, some of whom are shown opposite. Crew members may be of either sex (in our case 16 male, one female) and range in ages from 18 to 45.

Compulsary retirement is at age 50.

Crew occupations range from Marine Engineer, Fisherman, Painter and Decorator, Marine Biologist, Carpenter, Surveyor, Student and GP.

All crew members live or work locally.

The current response time from pagers going off to launching the lifeboat is six minutes.

Inital training for crew takes place at the RNLI College at Poole. This is followed by specific training on: Radio Communications

There is also local training at Looe, usually every week.

Training costs over £1,000 and about £1,500 for initial outfitting.

Looe lifeboats are always looking for volunteer crew. The main requirements being within the above age range, good general health and fit. If you want any further information please Contact Us, marked for Dave Haines Operations Manager.
